WHAT IS BOTOX COSMETIC?

BOTOX® is an FDA-approved, trademarked drug derived from the bacterial toxin Botulin. When injected in small amounts, it can effectively weaken overactive muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s eyes, forehead creases, and frown lines between the eyebrows for a period of 3-4 months.  It doesn’t fill lines — just makes it harder for the muscles that cause wrinkles and lines to contract.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines. Results should last for three to four months. However, it has been more recently suggested that there are some lasting effects of BOTOX® use. During the treatment period, the drug improves skin elasticity by up to 30 percent – which can also aid in the prevention of new wrinkles long-term, according to a Canadian study published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery by dermatologist Dr. James Bonaparte of the University of Ottawa and Dr. David Ellis of the University of Toronto.

Keep in mind that the results from Botox are not permanent. Once you discontinue use the lines and wrinkles will gradually re-appear. To prevent this from occuring, it is best to keep to a 3-4 month schedule.
